Brotherhood
Jacques and Peter opened the circle to discussion after Jacques tucked the cross away in his backpack. Brian, who had wept unabashedly during the blessing with the cross, thanked Jacques for helping him remember something important about his soul.
âI have been struggling to know how I fit into this gathering, my brother. I know I am not of the Ruby Order, but find myself called to be here, like so many of my Andean brothers,â Brian offered, sweeping his hand out to connect with the Indians who had come to be with them. âWhen you laid out the Templar artifacts I knew who I had been, and now believe that I am called here to serve as a warrior guardian of the ruby order once again.â
Don Eduardo slowly nodded towards Brian, affirming that he had been a member of the magi warriors. Leah had been watching Brianâs energy shift from the vigilance of a wounded apprentice to the centered strength of the spiritual warrior. Her heart leapt with joy for Brianâs profound awareness.
Reaching into his pocket, Brian withdrew the pouch containing the emeralds given to him by Don Eduardo. âI return these to you, my brother, for they are not mine to keep or use,â he said, passing them around the circle to the ylloqâe. Pleased that Brian had found his own way with the emeralds, Don Eduardo blew into the pouch and passed them to his wife, Doña Felicia, who was sitting behind him. She spirited them away while turning her twinkling eyes towards Brian in blessing. The emeralds had come full circle, for it was Doña Felicia who was their true guardian.
By way of explaining her astonishment at Jacquesâ discussion of the Templars, Leah shared with Jacques that an Anselm de Ville fitting the description of his ancestor appeared in her family tree as well. With a great deal of laughter, it was decided that they were likely distant relatives of both blood and soul.
Susmo, who had been deep in thought, suddenly spoke aloud. âI am remembering a story which my father told to me many times. In this story seven women came to a certain village in the mountains with a mystical alchemy. They were called witches or brujas by the local people and stayed very much to themselves. What manner of sorcery they were practicing has been imagined into the stories of that village since their arrival in the mid-sixteenth century.
âMy father felt they had come to escape the Inquisition. These women had come from the Basque country and Navarre but, oddly enough, one had come from England. Later on, a Count appeared in that village who took up living in the hacienda with the seven women. He was mysterious beyond imagining. The women were said to be dreamers, naguals, and he was portrayed as an adept of great power.
âI am just remembering this story and wondering if it was not another projection of the Master Saint Germain. The women married into some of the families who had become the landowners at the time of the conquest.
